Identity, Culture, and Art.

About us

An independent, non-profit organization focused on the culture, arts and education of the Hispanic community in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

We are an organization that emphasizes art and culture as an engine for individual and community development. The cultural richness of Hispano-America allows the development of activities, events, and festivals that encourage the artistic creation of the community.

Objectives

1. Promote art and culture as inalienable and essential values of the human being.

2. Sensitize the community by coordinating and sponsoring festivals, activities, and cultural events.

3. Work for the development and full recognition of Hispanics in our community.

Diversity

Although the name is Casa Guanajuato, the members and volunteers are of different nationalities, the majority being Mexican, not just from the state of Guanajuato.

The organization is open to all people with similar interests to those we carry out.

Our Roots

A group of friends and volunteers that make up a non-profit, independent organization focused on culture and the arts, particularly from Mexico, but open to all of Latin America. Our activities are organized for the whole community. It is a work for the love of art and our country of origin, to help us all to remember and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of our peoples, without profit.

Casa Guanajuato Kennett Square was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2003 by a small group of Mexicans, including Kathy Snyder who remains a member and co-treasurer.

Our activities are limited to educational and cultural purposes. In the early years, the organization had support from the state of Guanajuato given the large population of that state in this region. This donation was intended to help the group consolidate without affecting its autonomy or freedom of local direction and evolution.

One of our greatest contributions to the community is the “Cinco de Mayo Festival” which has been celebrated locally since 2001 and has been coordinated by Casa Guanajuato since 2007. It takes place on the first Sunday of May in downtown Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. In recent years we have had an attendance of around 15,000 people!

The Future

What unites us is not where we come from, but the vision of a common future. Heading towards that future, guided by our desire and dreams is what brings unity and coherence to our diverse group.

We are in the process of redefining ourselves as an organization, in order to transcend in the coming years towards a catalytic organization of the ideas, initiatives, and interests of the members, the youth, and the community, concretizing our efforts towards the construction of a cultural center for education and the arts.

Hispanics: creative, artistic, expressive; worthy members of the Society.
